Locate a Therapist

Children in child welfare deserve to receive the therapeutic services that meet their needs, however, locating an appropriate therapist can be difficult. Since 2007, the COE’s have strived to train and support the mental health provider network across Tennessee to meet those needs.

Below is some information on therapeutic interventions available across the state to help determine which therapy may be needed and where you can find it.

Evidence Based Therapies

Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is a brief, innovative, and personal approach that enhances parent-child relationships, improves child behavior, and empowers parents to use effective, consistent parenting strategies.

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT)

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is a structured, short-term treatment model that focuses on helping children build coping skills to better handle their trauma-related symptoms and to gain an improved under-standing of their experience of the trauma.

Combined Parent Child - Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CPC-CBT)

Combined Parent-Child Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a short-term, strengths-based therapy for children and their caregivers in families where caregivers engage in a continuum of coercive caregiving strategies, including those who have been substantiated for physical abuse, those who have had multiple unsubstantiated referrals, and those who fear they may lose control of their child.
